A Dunedin woman who is being given electric shock treatment in a psychiatric hospital has made a public plea for her doctors to stop.

Julie Simmonds is a committed patient under the Mental Health Act, and all decisions about her treatment are in the hands of clinicians.

However, she told 3 News she did not want shock treatment, but was being forced to have it.
